What is the Damascus Trust? The Damascus Trust is a registered charity set up in 1990 and based in Braintree, Essex. It has a Council of Reference as well as a Board of Trustees. It aims to work with local Churches in the U.K. and abroad, helping to share the Christian message with people of all ages, from all backgrounds, in all places and in all ways! Who is involved with Damascus Trust? The work of the Trust is directed by our teacher and evangelist, Andy Paine, BA (Leeds). Having spent some years working for both Youth for Christ and Scripture Union, the Damascus Trust was set up to support his teaching and preaching ministry. Since then his ministry has been appreciated by many churches in the UK as well as abroad. There is also a part-time administrator and treasurer who work in the office, as well as a team of regular volunteers working with us at different events throughout the year. What churches do we work with?It is not linked with any particular denomination, but works with all Christian Churches encouraging them to work together in reaching out into the local community. What type of events do we help with?Evangelistic and outreach events to all ages and in all sorts of places. For children, young people and adults; in homes, churches, schools, clubs and on the streets. We also run Bible teaching seminars as well as church leadership days. What media is used in evangelism?Drama, Music, Readings, Questionnaires, Speech - as well as a bookstall, third-world crafts & clothes, drinks and just the opportunity to ask questions and chat. How do we establish contact?Sometimes the Trust is invited to work in an area or at an event by the local Churches; other times the Trust makes contact with an event and then encourages local Churches to join in with them. How sensitive are we in our approach?Having worked at a wide variety of events with a good many Churches, our experience has helped us to be sensitive to each situation. This means that our approach will vary according to the age group, the event and the situation. Obviously we don't manage to please everyone all the time and we are aware that our simple aim of sharing the Christian message will upset some, however gently we may do it. But these incidents have been very few and our 'track record' supports this. How is the Trust financed?Income for the Trust comes primarily through gifts and donations. Specific expenses linked with events can be identified and may be covered by local Churches working at that event. Generally, however, the Trust makes no charge for it's work.
